Our Story
As a ministry opportunity to train and develop young people for Christian service and to provide an evangelistic avenue to reach young boys and girls for Christ, The Chapel began to examine a potential camping ministry. The result of the search led The Chapel to purchase a YWCA camp in May of 1964 and name it Camp Carl, as a living memorial to the late Reverend Carl Burnham, founding pastor of The Chapel.
The members and friends of the Chapel responded generously to the financial needs and the first summer camp program opened on June 28, 1964 with eight weeks scheduled. God's blessings were present as 425 campers attended the first summer. From its inception, the purpose of Camp Carl has been to carry out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment, confront each camper with the Gospel of Christ, and encourage growth in the Lord and effective service throughout life for believers.
What We Believe
God is eternally existing in three co-equal persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the Trinity.
Jesus Christ died as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, was buried, resurrected and ascended into Heaven. He is present there as High Priest and Advocate for all believers. We have “blessed hope” in His imminent return.
The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, or righteousness, and of judgement. He is the life of every believer and empowers the preaching and teaching of the gospel — which is the good news of salvation and the kingdom of God as announced by Christ.
The Bible consists of the Old and New Testaments. Verbally inspired of God and inerrant in the original writings, the Scriptures are the supreme and final authority.
People were created in the image of God, but because they sinned, they incurred both physical and spiritual death — which is separation from God. People are born with a sinful nature; all are sinners in thought, word, and deed.
Salvation is given to all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith. Born again of the Holy Spirit, they become children of God and inherit eternal life.
The Church is the Body of Christ whose mission is to preach the Gospel to all the world.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:37-39
